The Higher Education Ministry in Venezuela and the Caribbean Maritime Experimental National University, in conjunction with the Venezuelan Aquatic Authority (INEA) have created a National Programme for a Sea-Transportation University Technical Degree, in order to fulfill the market needs on highly requested professionals graduated on the Sea-Transportation domain. The Caribbean Maritime University will provide professionals on this area, in Venezuela and abroad; the Mision Sucre (Sucre Mission) will be the launch pad to give opportunities to everybody around the country. The Mision Sucre (Sucre Mission) is an adult-oriented educational programme to facilitate access to domestic universities.
This National Programme for a Sea-Transportation University Technical Degree is supported onto a new educational model capable of generating and applying relevant and creative knowledge, in order to carry out contributions in the development of the nation. Having the earlier strategy as a rule, the Caribbean Maritime University is doing such a remarkable effort in the fields of education, training and syllabus updating of seafarers, and other people involved in Merchant Navy-related activities. That is the way how the Caribbean Maritime University satisfies IMO Standards such as Safety and Survival of Life At Sea and Prevention of Pollution from Ships; in the same direction, our institution also strengthens the Venezuelan Merchant Navy providing a high-skill staff to markets.

Course Modalities
The National Programme for a Sea-Transportation University Technical Degree consists of two study modalities that lead students to be incorporated into the Higher Education System:
Face-to-face courses: This modality is aimed to students who want to have a carrier in the maritime sector, through a teaching-learning process by attending face-to-face courses so they could become professional seafarers.
Distance Learning Courses: This modality is aimed to professionals with a Merchant Navy Degree (according to the local legislation on the maritime sector- Art. 245), which allows the participants to carry out on-line-studies by using the Interactive Distance-Learning System (SAID) at the Caribbean Maritime University. The students do not need to leave their workplace to take the course and they are able to alternate their duties in the maritime sector with their studies. The Caribbean Maritime University courses modalities in the context of this programme make compulsory for the participants take a term final test for each degree subject so they will have to attend in-campus classrooms in that specific case. This last academic requirement endorses students the reliability and prestige of the Caribbean Maritime University degree courses.
