The Foundation for the Higher Education Students Medical Assistance Service (FAMES, in Spanish) was created by the National Executive Branch under the decree number 531, dated on October 6 th , 1989. The Foundation is a legal person with its own patrimony.

The conception of this institution was inspired in the lack of a governmental entity which pursued students' well-being in the public education sector. It has been 19 years carrying out such a social work and we feel more engaged day by day to continue working for the students' well-being. They are the future of our country.

Our mission is to contribute on the creation, strengthening , and maintenance of the three levels of Medical Assistance, as well as encouraging the inclusion of health as “one of our liberties”. This is added to a preventive approach on illnesses suffered by college students in equal terms with the guideline policies given on this issue by the State.

OUR VIEW

Our view is to constitute an institution on the grounds of efficacy, efficiency, transparency and solidarity. This will contribute with the State policies in the prevention, promotion and the spreading of health in the three levels of Medical Assistance for college students
